A case of bilateral Duane's retraction syndrome (DRS) type III associated with Kallmann's syndrome (hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and anosmia) is reported. Both anomalies may result from a disturbance of embryogenesis during the second month of gestation. The authors assimilate bilateral type III DRS to congenital horizontal gaze paralysis.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007006 Hypogonadism Condition resulting from deficient gonadal functions, such as GAMETOGENESIS and the production of GONADAL STEROID HORMONES. It is characterized by delay in GROWTH, germ cell maturation, and development of secondary sex characteristics. Hypogonadism can be due to a deficiency of GONADOTROPINS (hypogonadotropic hypogonadism) or due to primary gonadal failure (hypergonadotropic hypogonadism). D004370 Duane Retraction Syndrome A syndrome characterized by marked limitation of abduction of the eye, variable limitation of adduction and retraction of the globe, and narrowing of the palpebral fissure on attempted adduction. The condition is caused by aberrant innervation of the lateral rectus by fibers of the OCULOMOTOR NERVE. D005260 Female Females
D006065 Gonadotropins, Pituitary Hormones secreted by the adenohypophysis (PITUITARY GLAND, ANTERIOR) that stimulate gonadal functions in both males and females. They include FOLLICLE STIMULATING HORMONE that stimulates germ cell maturation (OOGENESIS; SPERMATOGENESIS), and LUTEINIZING HORMONE that stimulates the production of sex steroids (ESTROGENS; PROGESTERONE; ANDROGENS).
