[Cytochrome oxidase activity of peripheral blood leukocytes in patients with diffuse toxic goiter]. 1990

M D Podil'chak, and V K Ogonovskiĭ, and E Z Krasivskiĭ

Patients with diffuse toxic goiter showed a distinct reduction of the cytochromoxidase activity in the peripheral blood leucocytes. The degree of reduction of the cytochromoxidase activity in the leucocytes depended on the severity of the clinical course and degree of increase of the thyroid gland. Results of determination of the cytochromoxidase activity of leucocytes in patients with diffuse toxic goiter in association with other clinico-laboratory data reflect the severity of the clinical course of the disease, the hypoxia degree and efficacy of instituted treatment.

D002908 Chronic Disease Diseases which have one or more of the following characteristics: they are permanent, leave residual disability, are caused by nonreversible pathological alteration, require special training of the patient for rehabilitation, or may be expected to require a long period of supervision, observation, or care (Dictionary of Health Services Management, 2d ed). For epidemiological studies chronic disease often includes HEART DISEASES; STROKE; CANCER; and diabetes (DIABETES MELLITUS, TYPE 2). D003576 Electron Transport Complex IV A multisubunit enzyme complex containing CYTOCHROME A GROUP; CYTOCHROME A3; two copper atoms; and 13 different protein subunits. It is the terminal oxidase complex of the RESPIRATORY CHAIN and collects electrons that are transferred from the reduced CYTOCHROME C GROUP and donates them to molecular OXYGEN, which is then reduced to water. The redox reaction is simultaneously coupled to the transport of PROTONS across the inner mitochondrial membrane. D006111 Graves Disease A common form of hyperthyroidism with a diffuse hyperplastic GOITER. It is an autoimmune disorder that produces antibodies against the THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE RECEPTOR. These autoantibodies activate the TSH receptor, thereby stimulating the THYROID GLAND and hypersecretion of THYROID HORMONES. These autoantibodies can also affect the eyes (GRAVES OPHTHALMOPATHY) and the skin (Graves dermopathy). D000328 Adult A person having attained full growth or maturity. Adults are of 19 through 44 years of age. For a person between 19 and 24 years of age, YOUNG ADULT is available. Adults
