[For a better diagnostic strategy in idiopathic diaphragmatic paralysis]. 1990

Service de Pneumologie, Centre hospitalier régional, Amiens.

The authors report a case of right-sided paralysis of the diaphragm which revealed a lung cancer extending to the mediastinum and involving the right phrenic nerve. This case underlines the limitations of thoracic imaging in case of phrenic nerve paralysis. It also demonstrates the value of early exploratory thoracotomy in all patients with allegedly "idiopathic" unilateral phrenic nerve paralysis.

D008279 Magnetic Resonance Imaging Non-invasive method of demonstrating internal anatomy based on the principle that atomic nuclei in a strong magnetic field absorb pulses of radiofrequency energy and emit them as radiowaves which can be reconstructed into computerized images. The concept includes proton spin tomographic techniques.
