Institut für Bildgebende Diagnostik, Universität, Wien.

The aim of this study was to determine the value of MRT in patients with lesions of the Achilles' tendon and to verify the findings, as far as possible, both surgically and histologically. By means of MRT it was possible to classify 28 patients into four groups. Incomplete tendon rupture could be distinguished from various stages of chronic degenerative changes. Clinical examination and MRT made it possible to define strictly the indications for surgery and to offer the patients treatment at an early stage.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008279 Magnetic Resonance Imaging Non-invasive method of demonstrating internal anatomy based on the principle that atomic nuclei in a strong magnetic field absorb pulses of radiofrequency energy and emit them as radiowaves which can be reconstructed into computerized images. The concept includes proton spin tomographic techniques.
