The renal Na+/K(+)-ATPase and the gastric H+/K(+)-ATPase both contain alpha- and beta-subunits. We report here the identification and partial purification of a second population of the beta-subunit of the gastric H+/K(+)-ATPase, which has no accompanying alpha-subunit detectable by Coomassie blue staining or by Western blotting with monoclonal antibodies specific for the alpha-subunit.

D002845 Chromatography Techniques used to separate mixtures of substances based on differences in the relative affinities of the substances for mobile and stationary phases. A mobile phase (fluid or gas) passes through a column containing a stationary phase of porous solid or liquid coated on a solid support. Usage is both analytical for small amounts and preparative for bulk amounts. Chromatographies
D005753 Gastric Mucosa Lining of the STOMACH, consisting of an inner EPITHELIUM, a middle LAMINA PROPRIA, and an outer MUSCULARIS MUCOSAE. The surface cells produce MUCUS that protects the stomach from attack by digestive acid and enzymes. When the epithelium invaginates into the LAMINA PROPRIA at various region of the stomach (CARDIA; GASTRIC FUNDUS; and PYLORUS), different tubular gastric glands are formed. These glands consist of cells that secrete mucus, enzymes, HYDROCHLORIC ACID, or hormones. D000251 Adenosine Triphosphatases A group of enzymes which catalyze the hydrolysis of ATP. The hydrolysis reaction is usually coupled with another function such as transporting Ca(2+) across a membrane. These enzymes may be dependent on Ca(2+), Mg(2+), anions, H+, or DNA. D000581 Amidohydrolases Any member of the class of enzymes that catalyze the cleavage of amide bonds and result in the addition of water to the resulting molecules. Amidases,Amidohydrolase
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D013552 Swine Any of various animals that constitute the family Suidae and comprise stout-bodied, short-legged omnivorous mammals with thick skin, usually covered with coarse bristles, a rather long mobile snout, and small tail. Included are the genera Babyrousa, Phacochoerus (wart hogs), and Sus, the latter containing the domestic pig (see SUS SCROFA). D017506 H(+)-K(+)-Exchanging ATPase An enzyme isolated from the GASTRIC MUCOSA that catalyzes the hydrolysis of ATP coupled with the exchange of hydrogen and potassium ions across the cell wall. D043524 Peptide-N4-(N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminyl) Asparagine Amidase An amidohydrolase that removes intact asparagine-linked oligosaccharide chains from glycoproteins. It requires the presence of more than two amino-acid residues in the substrate for activity. This enzyme was previously listed as EC 3.2.2.18.
