[Plasmapheresis in the complex treatment of suppurative and septic diseases in diabetes mellitus]. 1990

V A Ovchinnikov, and Iu F Slukhaĭ, and G N Kizhvatova

Under analysis are data concerned with 21 patients with pyo-septic processes developed against the background of diabetes mellitus. The complex treatment included plasmapheresis. Its efficiency was estimated by the character of elimination of clinico-laboratory symptoms of endotoxemia, degree of correction of blood sugar, nonspecific resistance of the organism and cellular link of immunity. It was established that in most patients discrete plasmapheresis was 1,5-2 times quicker in elimination of intoxication and resulted in successful correction of the leukocyte index of intoxication, blood sugar and alterations in the system of immune homeostasis.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007328 Insulin A 51-amino acid pancreatic hormone that plays a major role in the regulation of glucose metabolism, directly by suppressing endogenous glucose production (GLYCOGENOLYSIS; GLUCONEOGENESIS) and indirectly by suppressing GLUCAGON secretion and LIPOLYSIS. Native insulin is a globular protein comprised of a zinc-coordinated hexamer. Each insulin monomer containing two chains, A (21 residues) and B (30 residues), linked by two disulfide bonds. Insulin is used as a drug to control insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (DIABETES MELLITUS, TYPE 1). D003131 Combined Modality Therapy The treatment of a disease or condition by several different means simultaneously or sequentially. Chemoimmunotherapy, RADIOIMMUNOTHERAPY, chemoradiotherapy, cryochemotherapy, and SALVAGE THERAPY are seen most frequently, but their combinations with each other and surgery are also used.
