The purpose of the paper is a review of contemporary findings on the problem of prolapse of the mitral valve in child age, as it is detected on ultrasonic examination in particular in adolescents. Warth's submitted diagnostic criteria of prolapse of the mitral valve differentiate it from normal closure. When these criteria are not respected, this may lead to unnecessary restriction of physical activity or altered work capacity.
