[Diagnostic role of vestibular recruitment and nystagmic parameters]. 1990

S G Tsemakhov

Electronystagmographic examination of 45 patients with peripheral and 22 patients with central lesions of the vestibular system was performed, using graded caloric and rotatory stimulation of labyrinths. It was demonstrated that functional and topical diagnosis of vestibular problems can be made with the aid of righting reflexes and vestibular recruitment. In this situation, it is important not only to detect the righting reflex but also to determine the nystagmic parameters, in which it is manifested, and to identify the pattern of nystagmic asymmetry and the stage of compensation of vestibular dysfunction.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008297 Male Males
D008575 Meniere Disease A disease of the inner ear (LABYRINTH) that is characterized by fluctuating SENSORINEURAL HEARING LOSS; TINNITUS; episodic VERTIGO; and aural fullness. It is the most common form of endolymphatic hydrops. D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D002150 Caloric Tests Elicitation of a rotatory nystagmus by stimulating the semicircular canals with water or air which is above or below body temperature. In warm caloric stimulation a rotatory nystagmus is developed toward the side of the stimulated ear; in cold, away from the stimulated side. Absence of nystagmus indicates the labyrinth is not functioning. Barany Test,Barany's Test,Baranys Test,Caloric Test,Test, Barany,Test, Barany's,Test, Caloric,Tests, Caloric
D004584 Electronystagmography Recording of nystagmus based on changes in the electrical field surrounding the eye produced by the difference in potential between the cornea and the retina. Electronystagmographies
D005260 Female Females
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D000328 Adult A person having attained full growth or maturity. Adults are of 19 through 44 years of age. For a person between 19 and 24 years of age, YOUNG ADULT is available. Adults
D014724 Vestibular Function Tests A number of tests used to determine if the brain or balance portion of the inner ear are causing dizziness. Function Test, Vestibular,Function Tests, Vestibular,Test, Vestibular Function,Tests, Vestibular Function,Vestibular Function Test
D015837 Vestibular Diseases Pathological processes of the VESTIBULAR LABYRINTH which contains part of the balancing apparatus. Patients with vestibular diseases show instability and are at risk of frequent falls. Disease, Vestibular,Diseases, Vestibular,Vestibular Disease
