[Activation of "silent" antibodies and their interaction with antigens]. 1990

S A Bobrovnik

Animal and human blood serum contains great amount of blocked (or "silent") immunoglobulins which, being activated by heating to 60 degrees C, pH decrease to 2.0-2.5 or treatment with 5M KSCN acquire a capacity to interact with different antigens. This interaction may be equally prevented or weakened by both identical and serologically non-related antigen, i.e. activated immunoglobulins are polyspecific. Polyspecific immunoglobulins show less affinity in comparison with monospecific antibodies, their interaction with antigens depends considerably on temperature.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007136 Immunoglobulins Multi-subunit proteins which function in IMMUNITY. They are produced by B LYMPHOCYTES from the IMMUNOGLOBULIN GENES. They are comprised of two heavy (IMMUNOGLOBULIN HEAVY CHAINS) and two light chains (IMMUNOGLOBULIN LIGHT CHAINS) with additional ancillary polypeptide chains depending on their isoforms. The variety of isoforms include monomeric or polymeric forms, and transmembrane forms (B-CELL ANTIGEN RECEPTORS) or secreted forms (ANTIBODIES). They are divided by the amino acid sequence of their heavy chains into five classes (IMMUNOGLOBULIN A; IMMUNOGLOBULIN D; IMMUNOGLOBULIN E; IMMUNOGLOBULIN G; IMMUNOGLOBULIN M) and various subclasses. D010047 Ovalbumin An albumin obtained from the white of eggs. It is a member of the serpin superfamily. Serpin B14
D006358 Hot Temperature Presence of warmth or heat or a temperature notably higher than an accustomed norm. Heat,Hot Temperatures,Temperature, Hot,Temperatures, Hot
D006433 Hemocyanins Metalloproteins that function as oxygen transport proteins in the HEMOLYMPH of MOLLUSKS and ARTHROPODS. They are characterized by two copper atoms, coordinated with HISTIDINE residues, that reversibly bind a single oxygen molecule; they do not contain HEME groups. D006863 Hydrogen-Ion Concentration The normality of a solution with respect to HYDROGEN ions; H+. It is related to acidity measurements in most cases by pH pH,Concentration, Hydrogen-Ion,Concentrations, Hydrogen-Ion,Hydrogen Ion Concentration,Hydrogen-Ion Concentrations
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D000906 Antibodies Immunoglobulin molecules having a specific amino acid sequence by virtue of which they interact only with the ANTIGEN (or a very similar shape) that induced their synthesis in cells of the lymphoid series (especially PLASMA CELLS).
D000937 Antigen-Antibody Reactions The processes triggered by interactions of ANTIBODIES with their ANTIGENS. Antigen Antibody Reactions,Antigen-Antibody Reaction,Reaction, Antigen-Antibody,Reactions, Antigen-Antibody
