RAST and PRIST in children with atopic dermatitis. 1990

Department of Dermatology, Medical Academy, Warsaw, Poland.

The study was carried out in 535 children. The frequency of positive RAST for food allergens decreased with age, whereas the frequency of positive RAST for inhalant allergens increased with age. Coexistence of asthma and/or rhinitis was not related to the results of RAST with food allergens. Positive RAST and multiple sensitivity for inhalant allergens were significantly greater in children with coexistence atopic respiratory disease. Total IgE was significantly higher in children with coexistent atopic respiratory disease in all age groups. This study provides information for the critical analysis of a RAST in atopic dermatitis.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007073 Immunoglobulin E An immunoglobulin associated with MAST CELLS. Overexpression has been associated with allergic hypersensitivity (HYPERSENSITIVITY, IMMEDIATE). IgE
D007223 Infant A child between 1 and 23 months of age. Infants
D008297 Male Males
D011852 Radioallergosorbent Test An in vitro allergen radioimmunoassay in which allergens are coupled to an immunosorbent. The coupled allergens bind the IgE in the sera of patients which in turn binds radioisotope-labeled anti-IMMUNOGLOBULIN E antibodies. D002648 Child A person 6 to 12 years of age. An individual 2 to 5 years old is CHILD, PRESCHOOL. Children
D002675 Child, Preschool A child between the ages of 2 and 5. Children, Preschool,Preschool Child,Preschool Children
D003876 Dermatitis, Atopic A chronic inflammatory genetically determined disease of the skin marked by increased ability to form reagin (IgE), with increased susceptibility to allergic rhinitis and asthma, and hereditary disposition to a lowered threshold for pruritus. It is manifested by lichenification, excoriation, and crusting, mainly on the flexural surfaces of the elbow and knee. In infants it is known as infantile eczema.
