Department of Applied Biology, Institut Universitaire de Technologie, Dijon, France.

A Streptomyces Sp strain producing appreciable levels of cholesterol oxidase was selected. In the culture medium, cholesterol oxidase activity can reach 13,000 UI/l. Cholesterol oxidase was purified by means of centrifugation, tangential ultrafiltration, ion-exchange chromatography and gel filtration with a yield of 42% to a specific activity of 54 UI/mg. Its molecular weight determined by SDS-PAGE was 55,000. Its optimum activity pH is about 7.

D002498 Centrifugation Process of using a rotating machine to generate centrifugal force to separate substances of different densities, remove moisture, or simulate gravitational effects. It employs a large motor-driven apparatus with a long arm, at the end of which human and animal subjects, biological specimens, or equipment can be revolved and rotated at various speeds to study gravitational effects.
