Nursing attitudes about sexuality needs of spinal cord injury patients. 1990

C Girts

Data obtained from this sample could generate topics for future research. Recommended areas for further study include the following: 1. Conducting a longitudinal study using the same instrument and distribution pattern. 2. Interviewing patients to determine their sexuality needs and comparing these needs with the nurses' responses. While these findings may not be surprising, rehabilitation nurses can assume from them that sexuality is not discussed during acute care. Therefore, it is essential that rehabilitation nurses assess their patients' readiness for sexual counseling and feel confident and comfortable in providing it.
