Analysis of 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase isozymes by polyacrylamide gel isoelectric focusing. 1990

K Akiyama
Department of Legal Medicine, Tokyo Women's Medical College, Japan.

Three common phenotypes of 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6-PGD) were identified by enzyme visualization following isoelectric focusing in photochemically polymerized polyacrylamide gels whereas in chemically polymerized gels no activity could be detected. Gene frequencies calculated from 429 individuals were 0.915 and 0.085 for 6-PGD*A and 6-PGD*C, respectively, similar to the gene frequencies of Japanese samples previously reported.

D007525 Isoelectric Focusing Electrophoresis in which a pH gradient is established in a gel medium and proteins migrate until they reach the site (or focus) at which the pH is equal to their isoelectric point. Electrofocusing,Focusing, Isoelectric
D007527 Isoenzymes Structurally related forms of an enzyme. Each isoenzyme has the same mechanism and classification, but differs in its chemical, physical, or immunological characteristics. Alloenzyme,Allozyme,Isoenzyme,Isozyme,Isozymes,Alloenzymes,Allozymes
D007564 Japan A country in eastern Asia, island chain between the North Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan, east of the Korean Peninsula. The capital is Tokyo. Bonin Islands
D010641 Phenotype The outward appearance of the individual. It is the product of interactions between genes, and between the GENOTYPE and the environment. Phenotypes
D010734 Phosphogluconate Dehydrogenase An enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyzes the reaction 6-phospho-D-gluconate and NADP+ to yield D-ribulose 5-phosphate, carbon dioxide, and NADPH. The reaction is a step in the pentose phosphate pathway of glucose metabolism.
