Young children with behavioral feeding disorders are commonly seen in occupational therapy practice. This paper, based on clinical experience with these children, presents an expanded frame of reference which may be utilized in treatment. The combined use of food as play and treatment of choice is addressed and viewed from learning, developmental, psychodynamic and humanistic perspectives. Possible etiologies of these specific feeding behaviors are discussed.
