[Effectiveness of various chemotherapy schedules and the indications for surgical treatment of patients with newly detected destructive pulmonary tuberculosis]. 1990

A E Doroshenkova, and T S Matviiakina, and T V Shapovalova

The investigation findings have demonstrated that after the initial chemotherapeutic course (for 6-12 months) in 32% of the patients with newly-diagnosed forms of tuberculous process, certain changes (residual cavities and tuberculomas) were evolving and requiring surgical treatment methods. Surgical intervention counterindications were proved in 2.7% of the cases, thus bringing the demand indicator in a surgical treatment of the given group of the patients to 29.3%. The analysis of the factors influencing the above demand indicator made it possible to find out its relation to a clinical form of tuberculosis and chemotherapeutic regimen.
