Some properties of uridine 5'-diphosphogalactose: N-acetylglucosamine galactosyltransferase in human parotid saliva. 1975

R Nakamura, and T Watanabe, and A Tsunemitsu

Uridine 5'-diphospho (UDP)-galactose: N-acetylglucosamine galactosyltransferase was separated from human parotid saliva and partially purified. The optimum pH of the enzyme was 7.5. The enzyme required a specific acceptor, and its activity was activated by manganese and magnesium ions.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007788 Lactose Synthase An enzyme complex that catalyzes the transfer of GALACTOSE from UDP GALACTOSE to GLUCOSE, forming LACTOSE. The enzyme complex is composed of a B subunit, ALPHA-LACTALBUMIN, which changes the substrate specificity of the A subunit, N-ACETYLLACTOSAMINE SYNTHASE, from N-ACETYLGLUCOSAMINE to glucose making lactose synthesis the preferred reaction. Lactose Synthetase,N-Acetylgucosamide 1-4 beta Galactosyl Transferase,N Acetylgucosamide 1 4 beta Galactosyl Transferase,Synthase, Lactose,Synthetase, Lactose
D008274 Magnesium A metallic element that has the atomic symbol Mg, atomic number 12, and atomic weight 24.31. It is important for the activity of many enzymes, especially those involved in OXIDATIVE PHOSPHORYLATION.
D008297 Male Males
D008345 Manganese A trace element with atomic symbol Mn, atomic number 25, and atomic weight 54.94. It is concentrated in cell mitochondria, mostly in the pituitary gland, liver, pancreas, kidney, and bone, influences the synthesis of mucopolysaccharides, stimulates hepatic synthesis of cholesterol and fatty acids, and is a cofactor in many enzymes, including arginase and alkaline phosphatase in the liver. (From AMA Drug Evaluations Annual 1992, p2035)
D009237 N-Acetyllactosamine Synthase The A protein of the lactose synthase complex. In the presence of the B protein (LACTALBUMIN) specificity is changed from N-acetylglucosamine to glucose. D010306 Parotid Gland The largest of the three pairs of SALIVARY GLANDS. They lie on the sides of the FACE immediately below and in front of the EAR. Gland, Parotid,Glands, Parotid,Parotid Glands
D004789 Enzyme Activation Conversion of an inactive form of an enzyme to one possessing metabolic activity. It includes 1, activation by ions (activators); 2, activation by cofactors (coenzymes); and 3, conversion of an enzyme precursor (proenzyme or zymogen) to an active enzyme.
