Substrate specificity of fucosyltransferase purified from human parotid saliva. 1987

The purified fucosyltransferase from human parotid saliva was shown to transfer fucose from GDP-fucose onto the oligosaccharide chains containing the Gal beta 1----3GlcNAc or Gal beta 1----4GlcNAc/Glc sequences. Competition studies between asialotransferrin and either lacto-N-fucopentaose 1 or 2'-fucosyllactose provided evidence that both the substrates competed for a common enzyme active site. These results suggest that the fucosyltransferase activities for the three acceptors may be catalyzed by the same enzyme.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007700 Kinetics The rate dynamics in chemical or physical systems.
D009844 Oligosaccharides Carbohydrates consisting of between two (DISACCHARIDES) and ten MONOSACCHARIDES connected by either an alpha- or beta-glycosidic link. They are found throughout nature in both the free and bound form. Oligosaccharide
D010306 Parotid Gland The largest of the three pairs of SALIVARY GLANDS. They lie on the sides of the FACE immediately below and in front of the EAR. Gland, Parotid,Glands, Parotid,Parotid Glands
D010455 Peptides Members of the class of compounds composed of AMINO ACIDS joined together by peptide bonds between adjacent amino acids into linear, branched or cyclical structures. OLIGOPEPTIDES are composed of approximately 2-12 amino acids. Polypeptides are composed of approximately 13 or more amino acids. PROTEINS are considered to be larger versions of peptides that can form into complex structures such as ENZYMES and RECEPTORS. Peptide,Polypeptide,Polypeptides
D005647 Fucosyltransferases Enzymes catalyzing the transfer of fucose from a nucleoside diphosphate fucose to an acceptor molecule which is frequently another carbohydrate, a glycoprotein, or a glycolipid molecule. Elevated activity of some fucosyltransferases in human serum may serve as an indicator of malignancy. The class includes EC 2.4.1.65; EC 2.4.1.68; EC 2.4.1.69; EC 2.4.1.89. Fucosyltransferase
D006602 Hexosyltransferases Enzymes that catalyze the transfer of hexose groups. EC 2.4.1.-.
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D000117 Acetylglucosamine The N-acetyl derivative of glucosamine. Acetyl Glucosamine,N-Acetyl Glucosamine,N-Acetyl-beta-D-Glucosamine,N-Acetylglucosamine,beta-N-Acetylglucosamine,2-Acetamido-2-Deoxy-D-Glucose,2-Acetamido-2-Deoxyglucose,N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine,2 Acetamido 2 Deoxy D Glucose,2 Acetamido 2 Deoxyglucose,Glucosamine, Acetyl,Glucosamine, N-Acetyl,N Acetyl D Glucosamine,N Acetyl Glucosamine,N Acetyl beta D Glucosamine,N Acetylglucosamine,beta N Acetylglucosamine
D000509 alpha-Fetoproteins The first alpha-globulins to appear in mammalian sera during FETAL DEVELOPMENT and the dominant serum proteins in early embryonic life. alpha-Fetoprotein,alpha Fetoprotein, alpha Fetoproteins
D001212 Asialoglycoproteins Endogenous glycoproteins from which SIALIC ACID has been removed by the action of sialidases. They bind tightly to the ASIALOGLYCOPROTEIN RECEPTOR which is located on hepatocyte plasma membranes. After internalization by adsorptive ENDOCYTOSIS they are delivered to LYSOSOMES for degradation. Therefore receptor-mediated clearance of asialoglycoproteins is an important aspect of the turnover of plasma glycoproteins. They are elevated in serum of patients with HEPATIC CIRRHOSIS or HEPATITIS. Asialoglycoprotein,Desialylated Glycoproteins,Glycoproteins, Desialylated
