[Quantitative evaluation of the nitroblue tetrazolium reduction test]. 1989

V K Vagner, and O S Nasonkin, and N D Boriskina

The results of NBT test were assessed by the visual cytochemical method and by the quantitative spectrophotometry technique developed by the authors for the NBT test. The results demonstrate a higher sensitivity and informative value of the new method, in case the neutrophilic tetrazolium activity is rather high; this recommends the NBT test spectrophotometric variant for wide clinical application in studies of the blood leukocyte functional and metabolic activity.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D009580 Nitroblue Tetrazolium Colorless to yellow dye that is reducible to blue or black formazan crystals by certain cells; formerly used to distinguish between nonbacterial and bacterial diseases, the latter causing neutrophils to reduce the dye; used to confirm diagnosis of chronic granulomatous disease. D001770 Blood Bactericidal Activity The natural bactericidal property of BLOOD due to normally occurring antibacterial substances such as beta lysin, leukin, etc. This activity needs to be distinguished from the bactericidal activity contained in a patient's serum as a result of antimicrobial therapy, which is measured by a SERUM BACTERICIDAL TEST. D013778 Tetrazolium Salts Quaternary salts derived from tetrazoles. They are used in tests to distinguish between reducing sugars and simple aldehydes, for detection of dehydrogenase in tissues, cells, and bacteria, for determination of corticosteroids, and in color photography.
