Applications of tissucol in larynx, trachea and neck surgery. 1989

G Romeo

Tissucol (human fibrin seal) has an adhesive as well as a haemostatic effect on tissues. It has been used in larynx surgery favouring adhesion between cartilages, mucosae and muscles. The use of Tissucol has particularly been successful in: 1) bilateral cordectomy as, besides avoiding the temporary application of a silactic sheet to matain an open glottic chink, it also prevented webbing. 2) Authors also underline the advantages of applying Tissucol by the "duploject" device for closure of pharyngeal fistulae and by the "Spray-set" device for large pharyngo-oesophageal surfaces and neck fascia.

D015718 Fibrin Tissue Adhesive An autologous or commercial tissue adhesive containing FIBRINOGEN and THROMBIN. The commercial product is a two component system from human plasma that contains more than fibrinogen and thrombin. The first component contains highly concentrated fibrinogen, FACTOR VIII, fibronectin, and traces of other plasma proteins. The second component contains thrombin, calcium chloride, and antifibrinolytic agents such as APROTININ. Mixing of the two components promotes BLOOD CLOTTING and the formation and cross-linking of fibrin. The tissue adhesive is used for tissue sealing, HEMOSTASIS, and WOUND HEALING.
