[Changes of the lymphocytes and their subsets in broncho-alveolar lavage fluid in patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis]. 1989

T-lymphocytes and their subsets marked by monoclonal antibodies with OKT system were measured both in peripheral blood and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in 10 patients with pulmonary sarcoidosis as a study group and 5 patients with hypersensitivity alveolitis and 5 non-smoking healthy subjects as a control. The results showed that there were significant higher T-helper cells (69.8 +/- 9.1%) in BALF in patients with sarcoidosis than in those with hypersensitivity alveolitis (30.8 +/- 3.9%) and in healthy subjects as well (40.6 +/- 6.1%) (P less than 0.01). There were, however, a significant greater proportion of T-suppressor cells (54.8 +/- 9.1%) in patients with hypersensitivity alveolitis than in those with sarcoidosis (16.8 +/- 3.2%) and healthy subjects (29.2 +/- 6.1%) (P less than 0.01). The ratio of TH/TS (4.5 +/- 1.0) in patients with sarcoidosis was higher than that of patients with hypersensitivity alveolitis in BALF. A decrease in ratio of TH/TS was observed in patients who receives corticosteroid treatment. It is suggested that study of T-lymphocytes subsets in BALF in patients with sarcoidosis is of significance in study of immune mechanism of target organ and in assessment of disease activity and effect of treatment.
