The metabolic changes during pregnancy are characterized as "accelerated starvation" and "facilitated anabolism" which are, in turn, worsened by the presence of diabetes mellitus. The current roles of dietary fiber and exercise as adjunctive therapeutic modalities in the management of diabetic pregnancies are discussed herein.
