OBJECTIVE To study our experiences in anatomy of marginal mandibular branch of facial never in partial parotidectomy. METHODS Thirty-eight cases receiving partial parotidectomy were analyzed retrospectively, and marginal mandibular branch of facial nerve were separated in all cases. RESULTS Temporary facial paralysis appeared in 2 cases and Frey's syndrome appeared in 2 cases. There was no patient appeared the recurrence in the 1-3 years followed up time. CONCLUSIONS Partial parotidectomy with anatomy of marginal mandibular branch of facial nerve is a safe, effective and minimally invasive therapeutic method for benign tumor on parotid gland (<5 cm).

D008334 Mandible The largest and strongest bone of the FACE constituting the lower jaw. It supports the lower teeth. Mylohyoid Groove,Mylohyoid Ridge,Groove, Mylohyoid,Grooves, Mylohyoid,Mandibles,Mylohyoid Grooves,Mylohyoid Ridges,Ridge, Mylohyoid,Ridges, Mylohyoid
D009364 Neoplasm Recurrence, Local The local recurrence of a neoplasm following treatment. It arises from microscopic cells of the original neoplasm that have escaped therapeutic intervention and later become clinically visible at the original site. D010306 Parotid Gland The largest of the three pairs of SALIVARY GLANDS. They lie on the sides of the FACE immediately below and in front of the EAR. Gland, Parotid,Glands, Parotid,Parotid Glands
D010307 Parotid Neoplasms Tumors or cancer of the PAROTID GLAND. Cancer of Parotid,Parotid Cancer,Cancer of the Parotid,Neoplasms, Parotid,Cancer, Parotid,Cancers, Parotid,Neoplasm, Parotid,Parotid Cancers,Parotid Neoplasm
D011183 Postoperative Complications Pathologic processes that affect patients after a surgical procedure. They may or may not be related to the disease for which the surgery was done, and they may or may not be direct results of the surgery. D005145 Face The anterior portion of the head that includes the skin, muscles, and structures of the forehead, eyes, nose, mouth, cheeks, and jaw. Faces
D005154 Facial Nerve The 7th cranial nerve. The facial nerve has two parts, the larger motor root which may be called the facial nerve proper, and the smaller intermediate or sensory root. Together they provide efferent innervation to the muscles of facial expression and to the lacrimal and SALIVARY GLANDS, and convey afferent information for TASTE from the anterior two-thirds of the TONGUE and for TOUCH from the EXTERNAL EAR. D005158 Facial Paralysis Severe or complete loss of facial muscle motor function. This condition may result from central or peripheral lesions. Damage to CNS motor pathways from the cerebral cortex to the facial nuclei in the pons leads to facial weakness that generally spares the forehead muscles. FACIAL NERVE DISEASES generally results in generalized hemifacial weakness. NEUROMUSCULAR JUNCTION DISEASES and MUSCULAR DISEASES may also cause facial paralysis or paresis. D012189 Retrospective Studies Studies used to test etiologic hypotheses in which inferences about an exposure to putative causal factors are derived from data relating to characteristics of persons under study or to events or experiences in their past. The essential feature is that some of the persons under study have the disease or outcome of interest and their characteristics are compared with those of unaffected persons.
