[The importance of directed cytological examinations in the diagnosis of ovarian tumors]. 1989

M Pajtler, and B Cugalj, and M Milojković, and Z Makarović

A total of 263 cytologically examined patients with clinically suspected ovarian tumours are presented. In 164 cases (58 malignant and 106 benign tumours), the cytological finding and the definite pathohistological diagnosis were comparable, by which it has been found that the sensitivity of the method was 79.3%, its specificity 96.2%, and its predictive value 92.0%. Possible causes of false negative and false positive findings are analysed.
