Abteilung für Reproduktionsmedizin, Wilhelm-Pieck-Universität Rostock.

20 fresh human ejaculates (6X normozoospermia, 7X oligozoospermia and 7X asthenozoospermia) were prepared either with the swim-up-method as with the glass wool filtration. After both techniques the motility of the spermatozoa improved markedly. In cases of asthenozoospermia and oligozoospermia the motility increased significantly compared with the value of the ejaculate. From the motile spermatozoa of the ejaculate 45-60% were detectable in the filtrat after glass wool filtration or in the upper fluid after swim-up-procedure.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008297 Male Males
D009845 Oligospermia A condition of suboptimal concentration of SPERMATOZOA in the ejaculated SEMEN to ensure successful FERTILIZATION of an OVUM. In humans, oligospermia is defined as a sperm count below 20 million per milliliter semen. D005307 Fertilization in Vitro An assisted reproductive technique that includes the direct handling and manipulation of oocytes and sperm to achieve fertilization in vitro. D005374 Filtration A process of separating particulate matter from a fluid, such as air or a liquid, by passing the fluid carrier through a medium that will not pass the particulates. (McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 4th ed) Filtrations
D005898 Glass Hard, amorphous, brittle, inorganic, usually transparent, polymerous silicate of basic oxides, usually potassium or sodium. It is used in the form of hard sheets, vessels, tubing, fibers, ceramics, beads, etc.
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D013075 Sperm Capacitation The structural and functional changes by which SPERMATOZOA become capable of oocyte FERTILIZATION. It normally requires exposing the sperm to the female genital tract for a period of time to bring about increased SPERM MOTILITY and the ACROSOME REACTION before fertilization in the FALLOPIAN TUBES can take place. D013076 Sperm Count A count of SPERM in the ejaculum, expressed as number per milliliter. Sperm Number,Count, Sperm,Counts, Sperm,Number, Sperm,Numbers, Sperm,Sperm Counts,Sperm Numbers
D013081 Sperm Motility Movement characteristics of SPERMATOZOA in a fresh specimen. It is measured as the percentage of sperms that are moving, and as the percentage of sperms with productive flagellar motion such as rapid, linear, and forward progression. Motilities, Sperm,Motility, Sperm,Sperm Motilities
