[In vivo studies on the effect of alpha chymotrypsin on hemostasis]. 1977

F U Meyer, and D Kurze

In some cases we observed after-bleeding subsequent to the postoperative prescription of alpha-chymotrypsin. In contrast to this, several authors have pointed out that haemostasis is not affected by therapeutical doses. In vitro studies on 10 individuals (test methods: hirudin tolerance test and euglobulin lysis estimation) showed increased fibrinolytic activity. It is, therefore, dissuaded from administering alpha-chymotrypsin to outpatients for the prevention of postoperative oedema and haematoma formation.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008963 Molar The most posterior teeth on either side of the jaw, totaling eight in the deciduous dentition (2 on each side, upper and lower), and usually 12 in the permanent dentition (three on each side, upper and lower). They are grinding teeth, having large crowns and broad chewing surfaces. (Jablonski, Dictionary of Dentistry, 1992, p821) Molars
D002918 Chymotrypsin A serine endopeptidase secreted by the pancreas as its zymogen, CHYMOTRYPSINOGEN and carried in the pancreatic juice to the duodenum where it is activated by TRYPSIN. It selectively cleaves aromatic amino acids on the carboxyl side. Alpha-Chymotrypsin Choay,Alphacutanée,Avazyme
D004487 Edema Abnormal fluid accumulation in TISSUES or body cavities. Most cases of edema are present under the SKIN in SUBCUTANEOUS TISSUE. Dropsy,Hydrops,Anasarca
D005342 Fibrinolysis The natural enzymatic dissolution of FIBRIN. Fibrinolyses
D006406 Hematoma A collection of blood outside the BLOOD VESSELS. Hematoma can be localized in an organ, space, or tissue. Hematomas
D006487 Hemostasis The process which spontaneously arrests the flow of BLOOD from vessels carrying blood under pressure. It is accomplished by contraction of the vessels, adhesion and aggregation of formed blood elements (eg. ERYTHROCYTE AGGREGATION), and the process of BLOOD COAGULATION. Hemostases
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D014081 Tooth Extraction The surgical removal of a tooth. (Dorland, 28th ed) Extraction, Tooth,Extractions, Tooth,Tooth Extractions
