Recent techniques of interventional radiology for alimentary tract are introduced. Techniques and equipments developed by vascular intervention are very useful for management of alimentary disorders, such as stenosis, obstruction and intestinal alimentation in case received complicated upper gastrointestinal operation. Percutaneous gastrojejunostomy is easy for trained radiologists and release patients from unpleasant trans nasal tube. Balloon dilatation for alimentary stenosis is one of the established methods, but new equipment--expandable metallic stent is suspected to be another hopeful equipment. Advances of interventional radiology will make great contribute to treatment and management of patients with alimentary disorder.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D002404 Catheterization Use or insertion of a tubular device into a duct, blood vessel, hollow organ, or body cavity for injecting or withdrawing fluids for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. It differs from INTUBATION in that the tube here is used to restore or maintain patency in obstructions. Cannulation,Cannulations,Catheterizations
D003251 Constriction, Pathologic The condition of an anatomical structure's being constricted beyond normal dimensions. Stenosis,Stricture,Constriction, Pathological,Pathologic Constriction,Constrictions, Pathologic,Pathologic Constrictions,Pathological Constriction,Stenoses,Strictures
D004064 Digestive System A group of organs stretching from the MOUTH to the ANUS, serving to breakdown foods, assimilate nutrients, and eliminate waste. In humans, the digestive system includes the GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT and the accessory glands (LIVER; BILIARY TRACT; PANCREAS). Ailmentary System,Alimentary System
D004066 Digestive System Diseases Diseases in any part of the GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT or the accessory organs (LIVER; BILIARY TRACT; PANCREAS). D015607 Stents Devices that provide support for tubular structures that are being anastomosed or for body cavities during skin grafting. Stent
D015641 Radiography, Interventional Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that are invasive or surgical in nature, and require the expertise of a specially trained radiologist. In general, they are more invasive than diagnostic imaging but less invasive than major surgery. They often involve catheterization, fluoroscopy, or computed tomography. Some examples include percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography, percutaneous transthoracic biopsy, balloon angioplasty, and arterial embolization. Interventional Radiography
