Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery After Radial Keratotomy. 2016

OBJECTIVE To determine the efficacy of femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery in eyes with radial keratometry. METHODS Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery was performed in 3 patients (6 eyes) who had six to eight radial keratotomy incisions. RESULTS In all cases, the anterior segment of the eye was visualized with integrated three-dimensional optical coherence tomography and it was possible to position the laser corneal incisions between the radial keratotomy incisions. No intraoperative complications occurred. In particular, no corneal perforation, anterior capsular tears, or discontinuities could be detected. No corneal leakage or other postoperative complications were noted on follow-up after 6 weeks and 6 months. CONCLUSIONS Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery presents a new, feasible, and safe surgical technique for patients with cataract who had previous radial keratotomy. D003315 Cornea The transparent anterior portion of the fibrous coat of the eye consisting of five layers: stratified squamous CORNEAL EPITHELIUM; BOWMAN MEMBRANE; CORNEAL STROMA; DESCEMET MEMBRANE; and mesenchymal CORNEAL ENDOTHELIUM. It serves as the first refracting medium of the eye. It is structurally continuous with the SCLERA, avascular, receiving its nourishment by permeation through spaces between the lamellae, and is innervated by the ophthalmic division of the TRIGEMINAL NERVE via the ciliary nerves and those of the surrounding conjunctiva which together form plexuses.
