Out in the cold. 1988

Daloni Carlisle

Diane Carlton worked for six years as a District Nurse in rural Lincolnshire before illness forced her to take a more sedentary job as a practice nurse. She well remembers battling through the snow to deliver insulin to an 83-year-old diabetic: 'I was the last person out of that village before it was cut off for a week. She'd run out of insulin and if I hadn't got through, that would have been that for her.'
