Neodymium: YAG laser capsulotomy with a biconvex intraocular lens. 1989

J M Corboy, and E A Novak

There are optical and mechanical advantages of the biconvex posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) following cataract surgery. A clinical study of Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy in eyes with biconvex IOLs was undertaken. The lenses were made of injection-molded poly(methyl methacrylate) without laser spacing. Using specified techniques, YAG laser capsulotomy was performed in 19% of 436 eyes without significant damage to the IOL and without affecting visual acuity or glare disability.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007903 Lens Capsule, Crystalline The thin noncellular outer covering of the CRYSTALLINE LENS composed mainly of COLLAGEN TYPE IV and GLYCOSAMINOGLYCANS. It is secreted by the embryonic anterior and posterior epithelium. The embryonic posterior epithelium later disappears. D007908 Lens, Crystalline A transparent, biconvex structure of the EYE, enclosed in a capsule and situated behind the IRIS and in front of the vitreous humor (VITREOUS BODY). It is slightly overlapped at its margin by the ciliary processes. Adaptation by the CILIARY BODY is crucial for OCULAR ACCOMMODATION. Eye Lens,Lens, Eye,Crystalline Lens
