Fluoride uptake and dissolution behavior of a synthetic dental enamel-like substrate. 1978

M Jarcho, and L J Dombrowski, and R L Salsbury, and B A Bondley

A new ceramic form of hydroxylapatite and enamel were found to behave similarly in regard to their acid dissolution behavior in the presence and absence of topically applied fluoride. Discrepancies between the two materials can be explained by morphological differences between the rough enamel and smooth ceramic particles.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D002516 Ceramics Products made by baking or firing nonmetallic minerals (clay and similar materials). In making dental restorations or parts of restorations the material is fused porcelain. D003743 Dental Enamel A hard thin translucent layer of calcified substance which envelops and protects the dentin of the crown of the tooth. It is the hardest substance in the body and is almost entirely composed of calcium salts. Under the microscope, it is composed of thin rods (enamel prisms) held together by cementing substance, and surrounded by an enamel sheath.
