In a prospective study n = 80 patients after acute myocardial infarction, upper age limit 75 years, were conditioned by a 6-week outpatient training programme. 78% of the patients older than 60 years could be conditioned successfully. In particular patients at high risk went through a low level exercise training. Any serious, life-threatening complications have not occurred in the older patients during the training programme. The results provide evidence of the efficiency of the outpatient physical conditioning of older patients in regard to the improvement of the quality of life and the support in social re-integration.
