Emergency mental status examinations for children are usually sought in crisis situations. Children and adolescents with conduct disorders, suicidal behavior, psychosis, school refusal and special problems such as physical or sexual abuse may present to the family physician in crisis. The goal of the emergency mental status examination must be to develop an appropriate intervention.
