Determination of the antigenic relationships among six serotypes of infectious bronchitis virus using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and serum-neutralization test. 1987

The indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was applied to detect antibody to infectious bronchitis (IB) virus in chickens. A cross-reactivity study was performed to determine the antigenic relationships among six strains: Massachusetts, Connecticut, Beaudette, and three Ontario field isolates. For comparison, the cross-reactivity study was performed in eggs using the serum-neutralization (SN) test for IB. The ELISA proved to be more broadly cross-reactive than the IB-SN test. This suggests that the ELISA for IB will be useful as a rapid diagnostic test for serum profiling in unvaccinated flocks, regardless of the IB serotype involved.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D009500 Neutralization Tests The measurement of infection-blocking titer of ANTISERA by testing a series of dilutions for a given virus-antiserum interaction end-point, which is generally the dilution at which tissue cultures inoculated with the serum-virus mixtures demonstrate cytopathology (CPE) or the dilution at which 50% of test animals injected with serum-virus mixtures show infectivity (ID50) or die (LD50). D002645 Chickens Common name for the species Gallus gallus, the domestic fowl, in the family Phasianidae, order GALLIFORMES. It is descended from the red jungle fowl of SOUTHEAST ASIA. Gallus gallus,Gallus domesticus,Gallus gallus domesticus,Chicken
D003332 Coronaviridae Spherical RNA viruses, in the order NIDOVIRALES, infecting a wide range of animals including humans. Transmission is by fecal-oral and respiratory routes. Mechanical transmission is also common. There are two genera: CORONAVIRUS and TOROVIRUS. Bafinivirus,Coronavirinae,Torovirinae,White bream virus,Bafiniviruses,White bream viruses
D003429 Cross Reactions Serological reactions in which an antiserum against one antigen reacts with a non-identical but closely related antigen. Cross Reaction,Reaction, Cross,Reactions, Cross
D004797 Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay An immunoassay utilizing an antibody labeled with an enzyme marker such as horseradish peroxidase. While either the enzyme or the antibody is bound to an immunosorbent substrate, they both retain their biologic activity; the change in enzyme activity as a result of the enzyme-antibody-antigen reaction is proportional to the concentration of the antigen and can be measured spectrophotometrically or with the naked eye. Many variations of the method have been developed. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D000914 Antibodies, Viral Immunoglobulins produced in response to VIRAL ANTIGENS. Viral Antibodies
D000956 Antigens, Viral Substances elaborated by viruses that have antigenic activity. Viral Antigen,Viral Antigens,Antigen, Viral
D001351 Infectious bronchitis virus A species of CORONAVIRUS causing infections in chickens and possibly pheasants. Chicks up to four weeks old are the most severely affected. Avian Infectious Bronchitis Virus,Infectious Bronchitis Virus, Avian,Infectious bronchitis viruses, bronchitis viruses, Infectious
D012703 Serotyping Process of determining and distinguishing species of bacteria or viruses based on antigens they share. Serotypings
