Receptors for pHSA may be the links between HBV and hepatocytes. Therefore, we evaluated the correlation between serum binding activity for pHSA during the acute phase of hepatitis B in relation to the decrease of surface antigen concentration. METHODS 130 sera from 22 patients with acute (HBeAg-positive) hepatitis B were obtained weekly during an average interval of 7 weeks after the onset of the disease. R-pHSA were tested by RIA in 4 titre steps (1:50, 1:500, 1:5000, 1:50,000). HBsAg was analysed quantitatively by RIA according to the standard serum of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institute.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008297 Male Males
D011946 Receptors, Antigen Molecules on the surface of B- and T-lymphocytes that recognize and combine with specific antigens. Antigen Receptors,Antigen Receptor,Receptor, Antigen
D011956 Receptors, Cell Surface Cell surface proteins that bind signalling molecules external to the cell with high affinity and convert this extracellular event into one or more intracellular signals that alter the behavior of the target cell (From Alberts, Molecular Biology of the Cell, 2nd ed, pp693-5). Cell surface receptors, unlike enzymes, do not chemically alter their ligands. D006509 Hepatitis B INFLAMMATION of the LIVER in humans caused by a member of the ORTHOHEPADNAVIRUS genus, HEPATITIS B VIRUS. It is primarily transmitted by parenteral exposure, such as transfusion of contaminated blood or blood products, but can also be transmitted via sexual or intimate personal contact. Hepatitis B Virus Infection
D006510 Hepatitis B Antibodies Antibodies to the HEPATITIS B ANTIGENS, including antibodies to the surface (Australia) and core of the Dane particle and those to the "e" antigens. D006511 Hepatitis B Antigens Antigens of the virion of the HEPATITIS B VIRUS or the Dane particle, its surface (HEPATITIS B SURFACE ANTIGENS), core (HEPATITIS B CORE ANTIGENS), and other associated antigens, including the HEPATITIS B E ANTIGENS. D006512 Hepatitis B Core Antigens The hepatitis B antigen within the core of the Dane particle, the infectious hepatitis virion. HBcAg,Hepatitis B Core Antigen
D006513 Hepatitis B e Antigens A closely related group of antigens found in the plasma only during the infective phase of hepatitis B or in virulent chronic hepatitis B, probably indicating active virus replication; there are three subtypes which may exist in a complex with immunoglobulins G. D006514 Hepatitis B Surface Antigens Those hepatitis B antigens found on the surface of the Dane particle and on the 20 nm spherical and tubular particles. Several subspecificities of the surface antigen are known. These were formerly called the Australia antigen. Australia Antigen,HBsAg,Hepatitis B Surface Antigen,Antigen, Australia
