In this paper, we describe, for the first time, the genetic organization of the blpU This strain has recently been found useful and widely applied as an oral probiotic in the prevention of recurrent characterization of Streptococcus pneumoniae, showing a crucial role in interspecies competition within the nasopharynx. hypervariable region was specific target S. salivarius 24SMBc contribute to elucidate the microbial interactions in the nasopharynx, underlining the potential role of  the blp locus in human nasopharyngeal colonization.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D000070001 Streptococcus salivarius A species of Streptococcus that occurs in the human oral cavity and upper respiratory tract. It is a constituent of DENTAL PLAQUE and some strains may be pathogenic if they enter the bloodstream. However, other strains such as Streptococcus salivarius K12 produce BACTERIOCINS and are used as PROBIOTICS.
D000595 Amino Acid Sequence The order of amino acids as they occur in a polypeptide chain. This is referred to as the primary structure of proteins. It is of fundamental importance in determining PROTEIN CONFORMATION. D001430 Bacteriocins Substances elaborated by specific strains of bacteria that are lethal against other strains of the same or related species. They are protein or lipopolysaccharide-protein complexes used in taxonomy studies of bacteria. Bacteriocin,Lantibiotic,Lantibiotics
D001483 Base Sequence The sequence of PURINES and PYRIMIDINES in nucleic acids and polynucleotides. It is also called nucleotide sequence.
