Primary hepatic neuroendocrine tumors are extremely rare and difficult to distinguish from other liver tumors such as hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma. We present a case of primary hepatic neuroendocrine tumor in which F-FDG PET/CT imaging played an important role in the diagnosis.

D000072078 Positron Emission Tomography Computed Tomography An imaging technique that combines a POSITRON-EMISSION TOMOGRAPHY (PET) scanner and a CT X RAY scanner. This establishes a precise anatomic localization in the same session. D018358 Neuroendocrine Tumors Tumors whose cells possess secretory granules and originate from the neuroectoderm, i.e., the cells of the ectoblast or epiblast that program the neuroendocrine system. Common properties across most neuroendocrine tumors include ectopic hormone production (often via APUD CELLS), the presence of tumor-associated antigens, and isozyme composition. D019788 Fluorodeoxyglucose F18 The compound is given by intravenous injection to do POSITRON-EMISSION TOMOGRAPHY for the assessment of cerebral and myocardial glucose metabolism in various physiological or pathological states including stroke and myocardial ischemia. It is also employed for the detection of malignant tumors including those of the brain, liver, and thyroid gland.
