Ductus arteriosus aneurysm in Marfan syndrome. 1986

N L Müller, and J Mayo, and J A Culham, and D M Nichols

We report the angiographic and magnetic resonance imaging findings of an aneurysm of the ductus arteriosus in a woman with Marfan syndrome. This is the first reported ductus aneurysm diagnosed in an adult with Marfan syndrome.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008382 Marfan Syndrome An autosomal dominant disorder of CONNECTIVE TISSUE with abnormal features in the heart, the eye, and the skeleton. Cardiovascular manifestations include MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE; AORTIC ANEURYSM; and AORTIC DISSECTION. Other features include lens displacement (ectopia lentis), disproportioned long limbs and enlarged DURA MATER (dural ectasia). Marfan syndrome (type 1) is associated with mutations in the gene encoding FIBRILLIN-1 (FBN1), a major element of extracellular microfibrils of connective tissue. Mutations in the gene encoding TYPE II TGF-BETA RECEPTOR (TGFBR2) are associated with Marfan syndrome type 2. D009682 Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Spectroscopic method of measuring the magnetic moment of elementary particles such as atomic nuclei, protons or electrons. It is employed in clinical applications such as NMR Tomography (MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING). D004374 Ductus Arteriosus, Patent A congenital heart defect characterized by the persistent opening of fetal DUCTUS ARTERIOSUS that connects the PULMONARY ARTERY to the descending aorta (AORTA, DESCENDING) allowing unoxygenated blood to bypass the lung and flow to the PLACENTA. Normally, the ductus is closed shortly after birth. Patent Ductus Arteriosus Familial,Patency of the Ductus Arteriosus,Patent Ductus Arteriosus
D005260 Female Females
D006322 Heart Aneurysm A localized bulging or dilatation in the muscle wall of a heart (MYOCARDIUM), usually in the LEFT VENTRICLE. Blood-filled aneurysms are dangerous because they may burst. Fibrous aneurysms interfere with the heart function through the loss of contractility. True aneurysm is bound by the vessel wall or cardiac wall. False aneurysms are HEMATOMA caused by myocardial rupture. Cardiac Aneurysm,Aneurysm, Cardiac,Aneurysm, Heart,Aneurysms, Cardiac,Aneurysms, Heart,Cardiac Aneurysms,Heart Aneurysms

D000328 Adult A person having attained full growth or maturity. Adults are of 19 through 44 years of age. For a person between 19 and 24 years of age, YOUNG ADULT is available. Adults
