Physician acceptance of the hepatitis B vaccine at a university medical center. 1988

Department of Medicine, University of New Mexico, School of Medicine, Albuquerque 87131.

To examine how physicians at different training levels accepted the hepatitis B vaccine (Heptavax), we mailed questionnaires to all medical students, residents, and faculty at our university medical center. Eighty-one per cent responded; 57 per cent of those had been vaccinated. Attitudes of vaccine safety and efficacy and the perception of increased risk of getting hepatitis B were associated with having been vaccinated. The associations were strongest for the faculty and weak or negative for the medical students.
