The nitrite oxidizes reduced azurin and cytochrome c-551 from Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The effects of pH, ionic strength and concentrations of nitrite, EDTA and the protein on the oxidation were investigated. The results obtained indicate that nitrite interacts not only with the terminal electron carrier of the nitrite reducing chain (nitrite reductase, cytochrome cd1) but also with the intermediate electron carrier components of the chain (azurin and cytochrome c-551).
