[Radionuclide and ultrasound studies in nodular (colloid) goiter]. 1988

V P Stankiavichius

The informative value of scintigraphy and ultrasonic investigation (USI) was analyzed in 110 patients with nodular colloid goiter. The patients were operated upon, and diagnosis was made on the basis of histological findings. Scintigraphy was more preferable for the assessment of atypical position of the thyroid and function of its different parts but USI was better for the detection of its nodular, diffuse and other structural changes. Both methods contained no specific information pertaining to histology.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008297 Male Males
D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D011877 Radionuclide Imaging The production of an image obtained by cameras that detect the radioactive emissions of an injected radionuclide as it has distributed differentially throughout tissues in the body. The image obtained from a moving detector is called a scan, while the image obtained from a stationary camera device is called a scintiphotograph. D006044 Goiter, Nodular An enlarged THYROID GLAND containing multiple nodules (THYROID NODULE), usually resulting from recurrent thyroid HYPERPLASIA and involution over many years to produce the irregular enlargement. Multinodular goiters may be nontoxic or may induce THYROTOXICOSIS. Nodular Goiter,Goiters, Nodular,Nodular Goiters
