Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Hand Surgery, University Hospital Utrecht, the Netherlands.

The principle of Van der Meulen procedure was used for correction of 14 hypospadias cripples. The advantages and drawbacks are discussed. Follow-up ranged from one to five years. None of our patients needed a second intervention. Only one complication (urine leakage) occurred, which could be treated by application of Histoacryl glue at regular intervals and slight compression during voiding.
