Over a one-year period, the York Hospital customized and refined an existing software package and developed a computerized hematology system which solved many of the problems encountered while implementing the computer in the routine hematology laboratory. These problems included: developing an efficient system of internal organization and work flow patterns; finding a method for accurate and rapid test result entry; and ensuring the compatibility between the system and existing instrumentation.
