The problem of utilization of modern/Western and traditional mental health practices among the Yoruba people of Nigeria is the focus of this paper. The Yorubas' beliefs about mental disorders, causes and the value of traditional systems against modern/Western mental health practices are discussed. The paper ends with suggestions for the better use of traditional knowledge and the integration of this knowledge with Western practices--all for the general good of the would-be clients.
