In recent years, radiation therapy has seen an influx of experimental treatment beams. The negative pi meson, or pion, is one such beam. It exhibits complex phenomena that may prove to be a major advance in the radiation therapy of some tumors. This paper discusses the pion beam at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, Los Alamos, New Mexico.
