The metal-ceramic and all-ceramic esthetic restorations available today bear little resemblance to their predecessors of 2 and 3 decades ago. Metal-ceramic crowns and fixed partial dentures are successful when the dentist understands what biologic and mechanical demands will be placed on the restoration. Tissue management and tooth preparation affect long-term function and esthetic success.
