From 1972 to 1974, 25 autologous skin transplantations were carried out within the framework of complex periodontal therapy. Prior to the operation, ischemia and mobility of the marginal gingiva were found in all patients in the region of the lower incisors. After the operation, the gingiva had broadened by 5.6 to 6.6 mm. The grafts shrank after the operation. In two cases the graft failed and was rejected. The transplanted skin does not change in color, although keratinization of the transplanted skin is considerably reduced.
