The technique for ureteral balloon dilatation prior to rigid ureteroscopy is discussed. No complication due to the technique occurred in the 126 patients submitted to this method. Advantages and drawbacks of the various dilatation techniques are discussed. Ureteral balloon dilatation appears to be the safest and most effective technique.
