[Bacteriocinogenic properties of Proteus]. 1978

I G Shvidenko

As revealed, bacteriocinogenia was widespread in bacteria of the Proteus genus (85 +/- 3.87%). Proteus cultures isolated from various sources failed to differ by the number of bacteriocinogenic cultures and by bacteriocinogenic activity. Bacteriocinogenic cultures were mostly revealed among the Proteius mirabilis strains.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D011513 Proteus mirabilis A species of gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria that is frequently isolated from clinical specimens. Its most common site of infection is the urinary tract.
D011514 Proteus vulgaris A species of gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria that occurs in soil, fecal matter, and sewage. It is an opportunistic pathogen and causes cystitis and pyelonephritis.
D001430 Bacteriocins Substances elaborated by specific strains of bacteria that are lethal against other strains of the same or related species. They are protein or lipopolysaccharide-protein complexes used in taxonomy studies of bacteria. Bacteriocin,Lantibiotic,Lantibiotics
D046508 Culture Techniques Methods of maintaining or growing biological materials in controlled laboratory conditions. These include the cultures of CELLS; TISSUES; organs; or embryo in vitro. Both animal and plant tissues may be cultured by a variety of methods. Cultures may derive from normal or abnormal tissues, and consist of a single cell type or mixed cell types.
