Comutagenic effect of norharman and harman with 2-acetylaminofluorene derivatives. 1978

K Umezawa, and A Shirai, and T Matsushima, and T Sugimura

Norharman enhanced the known mutagenicity of 2-acetylaminofluorene derivatives in the Salmonella test system. The mutagenicities of 2-acetylaminofluorene, 2-aminofluorene, and N-hydroxy-2-acetylaminofluorene were enhanced by norharman only when rat liver microsomal enzymes were added, whereas the mutagenicity of N-acetoxy-2-acetylaminofluorene was increased in the absence of microsomal enzymes. Harman also increased mutagenesis, althouth less so than norharman.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008862 Microsomes, Liver Closed vesicles of fragmented endoplasmic reticulum created when liver cells or tissue are disrupted by homogenization. They may be smooth or rough. Liver Microsomes,Liver Microsome,Microsome, Liver
D009153 Mutagens Chemical agents that increase the rate of genetic mutation by interfering with the function of nucleic acids. A clastogen is a specific mutagen that causes breaks in chromosomes. Clastogen,Clastogens,Genotoxin,Genotoxins,Mutagen
D002243 Carbolines A group of pyrido-indole compounds. Included are any points of fusion of pyridine with the five-membered ring of indole and any derivatives of these compounds. These are similar to CARBAZOLES which are benzo-indoles. Carboline,Pyrido(4,3-b)Indole,Beta-Carbolines,Pyrido(4,3-b)Indoles,Beta Carbolines

D005449 Fluorenes A family of diphenylenemethane derivatives.
D006247 Harmine Alkaloid isolated from seeds of PEGANUM HARMALA; ZYGOPHYLLACEAE. It is identical to banisterine, or telepathine, from Banisteria caapi and is one of the active ingredients of hallucinogenic drinks made in the western Amazon region from related plants. It has no therapeutic use, but (as banisterine) was hailed as a cure for postencephalitic PARKINSON DISEASE in the 1920's. 9H-Pyrido(3,4-b)indole, 7-methoxy-1-methyl-,Banisterine,Leucoharmine,Telepathine,Yageine
D000470 Alkaloids Organic nitrogenous bases. Many alkaloids of medical importance occur in the animal and vegetable kingdoms, and some have been synthesized. (Grant & Hackh's Chemical Dictionary, 5th ed) Alkaloid,Plant Alkaloid,Plant Alkaloids,Alkaloid, Plant,Alkaloids, Plant
D012486 Salmonella typhimurium A serotype of Salmonella enterica that is a frequent agent of Salmonella gastroenteritis in humans. It also causes PARATYPHOID FEVER. Salmonella typhimurium LT2
D015073 2-Acetylaminofluorene A hepatic carcinogen whose mechanism of activation involves N-hydroxylation to the aryl hydroxamic acid followed by enzymatic sulfonation to sulfoxyfluorenylacetamide. It is used to study the carcinogenicity and mutagenicity of aromatic amines. 2-Acetamidofluorene,Fluoren-2-ylacetamide,2-AAF,2-Fluorenylacetamide,AAF, Aminofluorene,Acetylaminofluorene,N-2-Fluorenylacetamide,N-Acetyl-2-Aminofluorene,2 Acetamidofluorene,2 Acetylaminofluorene,2 Fluorenylacetamide,Aminofluorene AAF,Fluoren 2 ylacetamide,N 2 Fluorenylacetamide,N Acetyl 2 Aminofluorene
