Discordance for ankylosing spondylitis in a B27 negative monozygotic twin. 1986

E Wojtys, and F Hankin, and E Braunstein, and H Kaufer, and T Palella

A case in which only one sibling of an identical, HLA-B27 negative, twin pairing is affected by ankylosing spondylitis is reported. While endogenous variables may predispose certain populations to ankylosing spondylitis, the discordance illustrated in these seronegative monozygotic twins indicates that exogenous factors may certainly influence the development and course of this disease.

D014427 Twins Two individuals derived from two FETUSES that were fertilized at or about the same time, developed in the UTERUS simultaneously, and born to the same mother. Twins are either monozygotic (TWINS, MONOZYGOTIC) or dizygotic (TWINS, DIZYGOTIC). Twin
D014430 Twins, Monozygotic Two off-spring from the same PREGNANCY. They are from a single fertilized OVUM that split into two EMBRYOS.
